Engineering & Technical Deep Dive

Technical Overview: Client-Side PDF Stream Compression

PDF file bloat typically stems from redundant font descriptors, uncompressed content streams, thumbnail caches, and high-DPI raster graphics embedded with inefficient encoding. Khalasna's compression pipeline operates locally via WebAssembly, parsing the PDF's binary syntax to rewrite Deflate-compressed streams with optimal zlib parameters. It removes redundant cross-reference copies, flushes unused metadata packets (such as XML XMP history logs and thumbnail caches), and subsets embedded TrueType and CFF fonts so that only glyphs actually present in the document are retained. High-resolution raster images embedded in the PDF are re-encoded with balanced discrete cosine transform (DCT) quantization curves or WebP prediction, drastically shrinking byte footprint while maintaining crisp text legibility at standard screen resolutions. Crucially, your document never leaves local RAM.
